A Change in my Legislative Affiliation

Friends and Neighbors,

I want to share a decision I’ve made regarding my legislative affiliation and how I approach my service to you.

After much consideration, I have decided to end my formal affiliation with the Progressive Caucus in the Vermont House of Representatives. I know this news may disappoint some of you, especially as it differs from how I campaigned and identified myself as a candidate. Please know that this decision does not reflect a change in my values or priorities—I remain deeply committed to progressive ideals and the work we need to do together to create a more equitable and just Vermont.

I still believe strongly in the tremendous need and value for a third party—and, frankly, even more political diversity. However, I’ve found that inter-party dynamics are impeding my ability to build sincere and productive relationships across the legislature. These cross-party relationships are critical within our current political landscape if I am to move good policy in service to our district. My goal is to represent you effectively, and I believe that stepping away from party politics will allow me to better fulfill that responsibility.

I remain the same person you elected—aligned with and committed to progressive values and principles—but I will now work as an Independent. This is not a shift to another party or a change in alignment. It is simply a move to focus on collaboration and results for all of us in the Chittenden 15 district.

If you have questions or would like to discuss this decision in more detail, I would be happy to have that conversation with you. Your input and understanding are always welcome as I continue to serve you to the best of my ability.

Respectfully,
Troy Headrick
Representative, Chittenden 15
